Spelling Competition

We are proud to announce we had our first Super Speller Competition this year at Rainbow. Well done to all the children who worked hard all year to learn their weekly spellings. We had three rounds in the competition and finally arrived at one overall winner from each year group. The winners won a trophy, prize and certificate. We now have a big trophy in school which will be updated with the winners’ names annually. Do YOU have what it takes to be a Super Speller next year?

East Asia Culture Day

During East Asia culture day we learnt lots about Japan which is a country in the sub continent. We completed some art work imitating the famous cherry blossom. these types of trees are famous for Japan and over the years Japan has used them to symbolise strength, courage and motivation.

We used our art skills which we learnt from Jane to create these art pieces using Brusho ink and pastels.

The year 5 children received special training and a resource pack. they have shown dedication to this role and have helped the year 4 readers enormously. Well done!

Impressions Gallery

Year 5 visited the Impressions Gallery just next to City Park on 7th March. The gallery was hosting an exhibition to mark the twenty-year anniversary of Hong Kong’s return to Chinese sovereignty from British Rule. The history was traced through the family photographer known as Kurt Tong, who explored the long standing links between the UK and China whilst embracing the idea of having a dual heritage.

Eden Camp Visit

As part of learning about World War Two, Year 5 visited Eden Camp where the children got a taste of what it was like on The Homefront and what life was like on the Frontline. There was an array of exhibitions there depicting each aspect of life during the second World War. The pupils also had the opportunity to watch a puppet show – which was one of the few forms of entertainment that people enjoyed at the time.
