Spelling Competition

We are proud to announce we had our first Super Speller Competition this year at Rainbow. Well done to all the children who worked hard all year to learn their weekly spellings. We had three rounds in the competition and finally arrived at one overall winner from each year group. The winners won a trophy, prize and certificate. We now have a big trophy in school which will be updated with the winners’ names annually. Do YOU have what it takes to be a Super Speller next year?

Nell Bank

Year 3 had a class trip to Nell Bank in Ilkley. It was fantastic! These are the activities we did: pond dipping, minibeast hunt, habitat trail and woods walk. To conclude all that fun-based learning, we played on the big adventure playground! J

We visited Bradford Cathedral as part of our Easter topic in RE. We learned about the Easter story and took a tour around the spectacular cathedral. The best part was making mosaics to represent the cross using shiny paper.

In February, Martin Luther King visited the National Media Museum. We learnt about light and shadows through a workshop called ‘Light, Cameras, Action’. Did you know light travels in straight lines? We also learnt that light bounces off EVERY surface and not just shiny surfaces like mirrors. Isn’t science amazing?!

Road Safety

Year 3 have been learning about road safety. We have taken part in Pedestrian Training by Bradford Council, which is designed to make us safer road users. Although we have had some training on crossing the road safely, we still need adult supervision. We are not quite ready yet to navigate the ‘Jungle Streets’ on our own!

Cliffe Castle

At the start of the Spring term, we had a fun visit to the Cliffe Castle Museum in Keighley. We took part in an Ancient Egyptian mummification workshop, and even had the chance to see a real mummy! We also explored other galleries of the museum, including their huge rocks and fossils collection and a spectacular display of stuffed animals.

In Geography, Year 3 are learning about Spain. To begin our topic, we took part in a Spanish Flamenco dance workshop. We enjoyed listening to a guitarist play Spanish music while a dancer performed a traditional Flamenco dance. We practised many different Flamenco dance moves and then finished the workshop with a group performance.
